Instagram’s Broken System: A Cautionary Tale of Unnecessary Bans and Endless Frustration

If you’ve ever tried to sign up for Instagram or created a new account, you may have encountered what I did — a maddening series of automated bans, nonsensical errors, and an endless verification loop that can only be described as systemic incompetence.

Instagram, a platform meant to connect the world, has been failing its users in the most fundamental ways, and it’s time to talk about it. This is a public warning: Never trust a platform with so little control over its own processes.

The Registration Process: A Broken Start

Let’s begin with something simple: signing up. Instagram’s sign-up process has become an exercise in futility. In my case, after creating an account and browsing for less than 10 minutes, I was hit with the infamous message: “Your account has been suspended.” No posts, no interactions, no violations — just instant banishment.

Okay, maybe it was a mistake. I try again. Same thing happens.

Instagram doesn’t care if you’re a new user, an aspiring content creator, or just someone trying to connect with friends. If their algorithm even thinks you might be a “problem,” you’re out — no questions asked.

But my case isn’t an isolated incident. Other users have shared similar horror stories:

User Story 1Jessica, a small business owner:
"I created a new Instagram account for my boutique, only to get hit with a ban right after signing up. No posts, nothing! I couldn’t even submit an appeal, and they told me that I violated community guidelines, but didn’t specify how. I was just left in limbo."

User Story 2Alex, an aspiring artist:
"I tried making an account to share my art. It was my first time signing up, and I spent about 15 minutes setting everything up. The next thing I know, my account is suspended! The worst part was, I wasn’t even able to get in touch with anyone for clarification. It was like I was punished for existing on the platform."

The Verification Loop: A Comedy of Errors

After my account was suspended, I was given the privilege of verifying my identity by entering a confirmation code sent to my email. Great, right? Wrong. After I entered the code, I was redirected to a login page, only to be instantly thrown back into the same process — again and again.

A never-ending loop. I couldn’t get past it.

Here’s what I learned from this nightmare:

  • Instagram can’t even get their basic verification system right.

  • Users are punished without explanation or human intervention.

  • The platform gives no clear recourse, leaving users in an endless cycle of frustration.

And I’m not the only one:

User Story 3Sarah, a travel blogger:
"I’ve had an Instagram account for years, but when I tried to set up a secondary one to showcase a new project, I ended up in the same loop you describe. Enter the code, hit login, and it just kept kicking me back to the same screen. I was so frustrated, and like you, there’s no one to help. They don’t even acknowledge the issue."

User Story 4Mark, a photographer:
"I’m not new to Instagram, but even so, after trying to set up a professional portfolio account, I was stuck in a verification loop for over 48 hours. I could never get in, and I couldn’t find anyone to help. It was such a waste of my time."

The Hidden Message: Instagram Doesn’t Want Us There

What’s the true message Instagram is sending?

  • They don’t trust new users.

  • They punish innocent users for nothing.

  • They offer no support, no accountability, and no way out once you’re banned.

If you’ve ever tried to bypass an Instagram ban or even appeal one, you’ll know how futile it is. There is no “real” person on the other side, just an endless series of auto-generated, cookie-cutter responses.

And worse? Instagram associates your phone, email, and device with their ban system. So even if you try to start fresh with a new account, you’re often still flagged. Good luck trying to escape their blacklist.

User Story 5Megan, a fitness influencer:
"My personal account was banned for no reason whatsoever. No warning, no explanation. I followed all of their rules. I was told my account was flagged for suspicious behavior. I appealed multiple times, but the only thing I ever got back was a generic response. I don’t even know what I did wrong."

The Bigger Problem: Trust

At this point, it’s not about a single glitch or a bad day for Instagram. It’s a pattern of incompetence. From the bizarre birthday picker that makes users scroll through endless months to enter their age, to the erratic, unaccountable bans that leave you locked out of your account, the platform is broken from the inside out.

You Can't Trust Instagram

At this stage, the question isn’t about whether Instagram is having a rough week or experiencing a technical glitch. It’s about systemic failure.

Here’s the truth: Instagram is not trustworthy. They make it impossible to appeal bans and offer no way to explain yourself. The system flags innocent users, punishes them for nothing, and forces them into an unavoidable loop of frustration.

And the kicker? Instagram does this to real people — people who are building businesses, creating communities, and trying to share their lives.

If you rely on Instagram for your business, community, or creativity, you’re taking a huge gamble.

Final Thoughts: Never Trust a Platform Like This

Instagram is a platform with massive reach, but it's also one built on automated systems that fail their users at every turn. It's a platform that’s broken — from the signup process to content moderation to the inability to offer any form of reliable support.

If Instagram cannot even handle the basic functionality of logging in or verifying users, how can we trust them with our content, data, or brand?

Instagram isn’t just unreliable — it’s downright hostile. If this is how they treat their users, imagine how they treat the bigger issues like privacy, content moderation, and data handling.

This once was a nice platform. Today it is ONLY a success for the share holders and owners. They fuck the user over every day since Adam Mosseri took over. If we have no reach it is our own fault. We post at the wrong times. We post the wrong content. We don't use the right keywords. We don't post enough. This idiot blames US for having no reach when the truth is that it is the ALGO that makes sure artificial scarticy is maintained - The ALGO is what is limiting our reach! The ALGO! And their solution: Buy ads!

FUCK ADAM!!!! He is lying through his teeth and he sure as hell cannot be trusted! I seriously suggest he gets his balls roasted!

Takeaway: Protect Yourself, Protect Your Brand

If you’re still relying on Instagram as your primary platform, you should reconsider. You deserve better than a platform that offers zero accountability, zero support, and a system rigged against you from the start.

The risks of being unfairly banned, losing access to your own account, and investing energy in a platform that clearly doesn’t care about you are simply too great.

You can’t trust Instagram. It’s time to explore other, more reliable platforms for your content and business. You deserve to be heard, supported, and respected — not trapped in a cycle of banishment without cause.

Let’s raise awareness and prevent others from wasting their time on a platform that can turn on you without warning. Share your experiences. Speak out. Together, we can make sure that more people are aware of how untrustworthy Instagram truly is.

A short note on Insta's marketing lie: 2 billion monthly active users!

1. Are Bots Included?

Platforms like Instagram often rely on automated bots to increase engagement — whether they’re following accounts, liking posts, or even commenting. In fact, bots can be considered as part of "active users" in some cases, which raises the question: are these bots being counted in the 2 billion figure?

Instagram has acknowledged the presence of fake accounts and bots that inflate engagement numbers. So, while the 2 billion might sound impressive, we can assume that a significant portion of these "active users" aren't real people but rather automated accounts doing nothing more than scrolling or clicking.

2. The Multiple Login Factor

Yes, another valid point! A single person logging in multiple times across different devices in a single day (or month) could indeed be counted multiple times. Instagram, like most digital platforms, doesn’t always account for the fact that one human being might log into their account on their phone, computer, tablet, etc. Each of these logins could count as a separate "active user" — inflating the number. So, if you are one of the many people who check Instagram 200 times a day, each of those logins might count toward the total.

3. Inactive Accounts and Ghost Profiles

Another potential trick is that platforms like Instagram may count accounts that aren’t actually “active” in the traditional sense but are still logged in. These ghost accounts might be empty profiles with no content, no posts, and no engagement, but as long as they haven’t been deleted, they still count as active users. Also, inactive accounts that just sit around in the system, not engaging but still technically part of Instagram’s infrastructure, could be lumped into that number.

4. Tracking Devices, Not Users

Instagram might also be counting devices or sessions, not actual unique people. So if someone switches from their phone to their desktop, it could get counted multiple times, further inflating the reported number of “active users.”

5. Marketing and Metrics Manipulation

Marketing teams love to boast about huge numbers to attract advertisers. The more impressive the stats, the more valuable Instagram seems to potential advertisers. By inflating the "active user" figure, they can boost their own image, making it seem like a must-advertise platform for businesses.

Bottom Line: How Accurate Are These Numbers?

While it's entirely possible that Instagram does have a large active user base, the number 2 billion likely includes a variety of inflated stats — bots, multiple logins per user, inactive accounts, and even devices that don't belong to the actual human user. So, are we really looking at 2 billion unique, engaged people? Probably not.

And of course, when you’re banned, do you ever count as part of that 2 billion anymore? Or are those millions of banned or ghost accounts also part of the inflated number?

It’s just another reason to be skeptical of these huge figures and wonder what they truly represent. At the end of the day, numbers can be manipulated to sound impressive, but the real question is whether or not Instagram can deliver on its promises of meaningful connection and real user engagement — especially when their own systems are prone to failure.

If you're frustrated by the inconsistencies, you're certainly not alone. The inflated numbers, coupled with their consistently broken moderation systems, make it clear: Instagram is not as "active" as they claim. If they can’t manage their platform properly, how can they possibly guarantee a meaningful, safe, and trustworthy space for users?

It’s always a good idea to dig deeper and question everything — especially when a platform’s marketing hype doesn’t align with the user experience.

If you want traffic you won't get it from Insta. Try Pinterest or TikTok. Pinterest is one of my preferred sources. And you can get a hell of a lot more traffic from Pinterest than from Insta.

We are running experiments at the moment and in a few months we will show you the incredible results! You will never use Insta again!
